Pakistan Announces Maritime Investment Conference to Boost Blue Economy

Islamabad – Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has announced plans to host the first-ever Pakistan Maritime Investment Conference 2025, drawing local and foreign investors to climate-resilient projects in the blue economy.

Addressing a high-level meeting of port heads and relevant departments, the minister said the initiative aims to promote sustainable investment across key maritime hubs like Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and Gwadar Port, as well as in marine fisheries and coastal zones vulnerable to climate change, says a press statement.

To ensure the success of the conference, the minister encouraged individuals, institutions, and organizations to submit innovative concepts and proposals that feature new venues for economic development, environmental conservation, and climate resilience. The call underlines ideas that align with Pakistan’s commitment to sustainable development and the protection of marine ecosystems amid the growing challenges of sea temperature rise and ocean pollution.

The conference is expected to attract a wide range of participants, from policymakers and investors to academics, private sector leaders, and international development partners.

Proposals are being sought in areas such as port modernization, smart logistics, renewable energy integration, and the application of advanced technologies like automation and digital management systems to improve efficiency and reduce emissions at the major ports, he noted.

The meeting also explored blue economy ventures that involve marine biotechnology, aquaculture, desalination, ocean-based renewable energy, and sustainable shipping.

The minister said innovative business ideas that promote job creation, community empowerment, and environmental stewardship will be given special consideration, as Pakistan aims to become a regional hub for maritime innovation and climate-smart investment.

Another focus of the minister’s call is the preservation of ocean health and marine biodiversity. Proposals for marine ecosystem restoration, mangrove and coral reef protection, sea turtle conservation, and pollution reduction are encouraged. Concepts that contribute to mitigating sea temperature rise and improving carbon sequestration through marine resources were in line with the conference’s central theme, “Healthy Oceans, Sustainable Futures.”

The minister has further encouraged submissions that explore the vast potential of Pakistan’s 1,000-kilometre coastline for sustainable coastal tourism. Ideas for eco-friendly resorts, cultural heritage tourism, recreational boating, and marine wildlife observation are being welcomed, especially those that include strong components of local community participation and gender inclusion.

Recognizing the importance of collaboration between public and private sectors, the minister called for proposals that offer practical models for public-private partnerships, innovative financing solutions, and bankable investment frameworks. Proposals for developing port cities, maritime industrial parks, and coastal infrastructure through blended finance or joint ventures are seen as key to accelerating maritime sector growth and generating long-term economic impact.

In addition to investment proposals, ideas for conference sessions, panel discussions, and exhibitions were also invited. Participants are encouraged to propose interactive exhibits, digital showcases, or startup displays featuring technological solutions and products supporting marine sustainability, renewable energy, and smart maritime operations.

With this call for ideas, Pakistan opens its maritime frontier to global collaboration, inviting creative minds and strategic investors to contribute to building a sustainable, innovative, and inclusive maritime economy. The Pakistan Maritime Investment Conference 2025 is envisioned as a milestone event that will chart a new course for ocean stewardship, responsible investment, and the growth of the blue economy in harmony with the health of the planet’s oceans.
