Pakistan, Spain discuss climate resilience, clean energy cooperation
Islamabad, June 10, 2026 —Pakistan and Spain on Wednesday discussed cooperation on climate resilience, renewable energy and sustainable development during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change Dr. Musadik Malik and Spanish Ambassador Carlos Aragón.
Dr. Malik highlighted the growing risks posed by climate change, citing the devastating floods that have affected Pakistan in recent years. He said shift in weather patterns and increasing climate variability were causing greater uncertainty, underscoring the need for preventive measures.
Pakistan remains among the countries most vulnerable to climate change and continues to face recurring floods, heatwaves and other extreme weather events.
Both sides also discussed the global transition to renewable energy and the need to enhance energy security amid geopolitical tensions affecting conventional energy supplies.
They stressed the importance of accelerating the adoption of clean energy sources, including solar and wind power, and promoting sustainable energy systems to improve resilience against future disruptions.
Dr. Malik briefed the ambassador on the ministry’s proposed Green University and Green Fields initiatives aimed at promoting climate education, research, innovation and green entrepreneurship.
The meeting also reviewed opportunities for cooperation and knowledge-sharing on climate action and sustainable development.
