Pakistan, Türkiye to Launch Joint EV, Clean Energy Programmes Ahead of COP31
Islamabad, July 23: Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to develop and launch joint programmes ahead of UN Climate Change Conference (UNFCCC) COP31 focusing on electric vehicles (EVs), electrification, energy efficiency and recycling as part of expanded bilateral climate cooperation.
The agreement was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr. Musadik Malik and Türkiye’s Deputy Minister for Environment, Urbanization and Climate Change, Ms. Fatma Varank, the country’s Chief Climate Change Negotiator.
Held in Shamakhi, Azerbaijan, on the sidelines of the COP31 Heads of Delegations Retreat, the meeting focused on aligning priorities for the climate conference, which Türkiye will host later this year, according to a statement issued by the Ministry of Climate Change.
During the meeting, Dr. Malik also briefed the Turkish delegation on Pakistan’s two flagship climate initiatives—the Green Field Programme and the Green University.
According to the statement, the Green Field Programme aims to drive a green start-up revolution by supporting young entrepreneurs in developing innovative climate solutions.
He said the proposed Green University would serve as an international hub for climate research, innovation and academic exchange while promoting commercially viable climate technologies.
The two sides also agreed to use COP31 as a platform to showcase progress on the Green Field Programme and Green University while advancing cooperation on clean energy, sustainable transport and circular economy solutions.
