NDMA forecasts first widespread monsoon spell from July 1
Islamabad, June 30: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has forecast the first widespread monsoon spell of the season from July 1 to 6, warning that isolated heavy downpours could trigger urban flooding, flash floods and landslides in vulnerable areas.
Upper and central Punjab, including Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala and Faisalabad, are likely to experience intermittent rain, wind and thunderstorms.
Similar conditions are forecast across upper and central districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Peshawar, Mardan, Swat, Chitral, Dir, Abbottabad, Mansehra and Kohistan, from July 1 to 5.
Northern and northeastern Balochistan, including Zhob, Barkhan, Sherani, Sibi, Kohlu, Naseerabad and Dera Bugti, are likely to receive light to moderate rain from July 1 to 4, with isolated heavy showers.
Scattered rain and thunderstorms are also forecast across northern Sindh, including Sukkur, Larkana, Jacobabad, Dadu, Ghotki, Kashmore and Khairpur, on July 3 and 4.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir are expected to receive widespread rainfall throughout the spell, raising the risk of urban flooding, flash floods and landslides, particularly in mountainous and low-lying areas.
The NDMA has advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during periods of heavy rainfall and follow official weather advisories.
