Award launched for women journalists covering climate, gender issues
Brussels, July 6: The Union for the Mediterranean has launched applications for a journalism award recognising women journalists reporting on gender-sensitive and solutions-oriented climate action, the green economy and digital transformation.
Applications are open until September 13, 2026. The award is organised by the Union for the Mediterranean in partnership with the Euro-Mediterranean Network of Women Journalists to promote evidence-based, solutions-oriented journalism.
Despite progress, women remain underrepresented and under‑recognised in media ecosystems while gender‑insensitive narratives and disinformation persist across the Euro Mediterranean region.
The initiative seeks to promote dialogue, regional cooperation and inclusive development while amplifying women’s voices and leadership through collaboration with media organisations and digital platforms.
The jury will include Anna Lindh Foundation President Her Royal Highness Princess Rym Ali, European Institute of the Mediterranean Executive President Senén Florensa, and International Federation of Journalists Gender Council Chair María Ángeles Samperio.
Eligible entries may focus on themes including youth engagement, the socioeconomic inclusion of persons with disabilities, the blue economy, energy resilience, disaster risk management and the root causes of migration.
